Sharks Season Comes To A Close at the FCSAA Championships
Miami Dade's inspiring postseason run came to a close on Sunday afternoon, as the Sharks fell 1–0 to Daytona State College in the finals of the FCSAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.
After battling through a tightly contested first half, the Sharks held the top-ranked Falcons scoreless for more than 70 minutes before Susu Roberts broke through in the 71st minute off an assist from Vanessa Manoil and Destiny Powell. Despite an aggressive push late in the match, Miami Dade couldn't find the equalizer, with several chances turned away by Daytona keeper Julianna Trujillo, who finished with four saves.
Ashley Fonseca anchored the Sharks' defense once again, recording four saves of her own to keep the game within reach. Offensively, Julia Gurgel led the way with three shots, including two on target, while Tessa Abreu and Camila Martins each added quality looks on goal.
The Sharks outshot the Falcons 11–10 and controlled much of the possession, showing the same resilience that carried them to the championship match. However, Daytona's second-half surge and steady defensive line proved to be the difference.
With the loss, Miami Dade closes its season at 6-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference. Despite the setback, the Sharks capped off a year defined by growth, grit, and late-season momentum including an unforgettable semifinal comeback that propelled them to the title stage. The foundation laid this season sets the tone for a promising future for the Miami Dade women's soccer program.
