Sharks Fall to Santa Fe, 89–80
Miami, FL- Miami Dade fought through four quarters Saturday evening, but Santa Fe College's shooting efficiency proved to be the difference as the Sharks dropped an 89–80 decision.
The game opened tight, with MDC trailing just 25–23 after the first quarter. Santa Fe extended the margin slightly in the second, taking a 46–41 lead into halftime.
Out of the break, the Sharks responded.
Miami Dade matched Santa Fe point-for-point in the third quarter (21–21) and stayed within striking distance entering the final period. However, the Saints shot 55.9 percent from the field and knocked down 10 three-pointers, using a 22-point fourth quarter to close out the nine-point win.
Jazmyne Bynum led the Sharks with 18 points, eight assists, and four steals while playing 39 minutes. Meredith Venner added 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, recording another double-double on the year.
Riana Callihan provided a strong lift off the bench, scoring 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and pulling down seven rebounds in just 18 minutes. Constanza Aravena finished with 10 points, while Azjannie Culberth added nine points and six rebounds.
Miami Dade held a 38–35 advantage on the boards and collected 19 offensive rebounds, but struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from three-point range. The Sharks also went 12-of-20 (60 percent) from the free-throw line.
Santa Fe was led by Claudia Ordonez Cabello's 27 points, including six three-pointers, while three other Saints reached double figures.
