Sharks Open Up 2026 with Victory
Miami Dade put together a strong defensive effort and a dominant performance on the glass to defeat Florida State College at Jacksonville, 69–51, on Saturday.
The Sharks established control early, edging ahead 13–10 after the opening quarter while setting the tone defensively. Miami Dade continued to build separation in the second quarter, holding FSCJ to just 10 points for the second straight period and taking a 32–20 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Sharks delivered their most complete stretch of the night. Miami Dade poured in 22 points in the third quarter, pushing the pace offensively while continuing to limit FSCJ's scoring opportunities. The run allowed the Sharks to stretch the lead to double digits and seize full control of the game.
Florida State College at Jacksonville attempted to rally in the fourth quarter, but Miami Dade answered with timely stops and efficient possessions to close out the contest.
Meredith Venner anchored the effort with a dominant double-double, finishing with 20 points and 18 rebounds while protecting the rim defensively. Constanza Aravena and Jazmyne Bynum each scored 17 points, with Bynum also contributing four assists and four steals to spark the Sharks on both ends of the floor. Riana Callihan added key defensive pressure and rebounding, while Miami Dade's depth helped sustain energy throughout the game.
Miami Dade controlled the boards by a wide margin and forced 20 turnovers, turning defensive intensity into consistent scoring as the Sharks closed out the 18-point victory.
