In a thrilling match, the Miami Dade Sharks pulled off a stunning 1-0 upset against the top-ranked Monroe Mustangs, with a decisive second-half goal sealing their victory.
From the kickoff, Miami Dade showed toughness, as goalie Samuel Cavo stood firm against Monroe's attacks. The first half was a battle of defenses, with Miami Dade creating several opportunities but failing to capitalize, including two shots from Alejandro Cumplido that went wide.
The match remained scoreless at halftime, but Miami Dade came out determined in the second period. Their persistence paid off in the 55th minute when Edoardo Duchini broke the deadlock with a well-placed shot, assisted by Guilherme Soares Martins. This goal, Duchini's first of the season, would prove to be the match-winner.
Despite a close call in the 86th minute when Harumi Yunaiyama forced a save from Cavo, Monroe couldn't find the back of the net.
The victory marks a significant achievement for Miami Dade as they win their first game after the program was cut off nearly 35 years ago. The Sharks will continue their tough schedule as they travel to Texas next week to take on Hill College and Blinn College.
