Breland’s Late Bucket Lifts Sharks Past St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg, FL - Anthony Breland delivered in the closing moments Saturday afternoon, scoring the game-winning basket to lift Miami Dade College to a 77–76 victory over St. Petersburg College in a tightly contested matchup.
Miami Dade led 43–41 at halftime after an efficient opening half offensively, with the Sharks knocking down nine three-pointers in the game and sharing the ball effectively throughout. St. Petersburg answered in the second half, briefly taking control as both teams traded runs down the stretch in a game that remained within one possession in the final minutes.
With the game hanging in the balance late, Breland's basket proved to be the difference as Miami Dade held on defensively in the closing seconds to secure the one-point win. The Sharks finished the afternoon shooting 46 percent from the field while forcing 11 turnovers and recording 11 steals to help swing momentum in key stretches.
Ernesto Rodriguez led Miami Dade with 15 points, connecting on five three-pointers, while Leeroy Nijean added 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists off the bench. David Verstraeten contributed 12 points, and Anthony Gilkes added 10 as four Sharks finished in double figures. Breland finished with six points, five rebounds, and four assists, including the decisive score that sealed the victory.
