No. 1 Miami Dade Opens Salt Lake Trip With 3–1 Victory Over CSI
The topranked Miami Dade Sharks opened their Salt Lake trip with authority, battling back after a first-set slip to defeat College of Southern Idaho in four sets (17–25, 31–29, 25–22, 25–20) on Friday morning.
After shaking off a slow start, the Sharks showed why they're the nation's No. 1 team. They clawed out a marathon second-set win, 31–29, and never looked back—closing the final two frames to dispose of the Golden Eagles.
Eleonora Gicheva set the tone by running a balanced offense, dishing out 38 assists while adding five kills on .455 hitting, three aces, and four blocks for a complete performance. Angelica Rodriguez powered the attack with 12 kills, while Luyeisy Márquez-Moreno and Luana Borsatto combined for 18 more. Maria Fernanda de Lima Varela provided a spark in the middle with six kills and four block assists.
On defense, Katianna Mejía Betancur anchored the floor with 18 digs as Miami Dade kept control of the match. The Sharks outpaced CSI in every major category, finishing with 49 kills, six aces, and 16 blocks.
