Sharks Lock Down Game One Victory Over Seminole State
Miami, FL - Miami Dade opened the doubleheader with a 4-1 win over Seminole State College of Florida, using a big second inning and a dominant outing in the circle to set the tone.
The Sharks did all their damage early, breaking the game open with four runs in the second. With runners on, Caroline Mito delivered the biggest swing of the inning, lining a two-RBI single down the right field line to score Sofia Reyes and Cate Haggerty. Moments later, Mito came around to score on a Seminole State error, and Alyssa Densmore followed with an RBI single to center to cap the inning at 4-0.
From there, Miami Dade let its pitching and defense take over. Amanda Handa was in full control across seven innings, allowing just two hits and one run while working through six walks. She kept Seminole State off balance all afternoon, stranding multiple runners and limiting any chance of a comeback.
Seminole State pushed across its lone run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk, but that would be all against Handa, who improved to 17-9 on the season.
Offensively, the Sharks finished with eight hits, led by multi-hit performances from Mito and Reyes. Mito finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Reyes added two hits and a run. Cate Haggerty also chipped in with a double and a run scored as Miami Dade capitalized on early opportunities.
Defensively, the Sharks turned a key double play behind Handa to help maintain momentum and keep Seminole State from building any rhythm at the plate.
With the win, Miami Dade took the first matchup of the doubleheader, setting up an opportunity to secure the sweep later in the day.
