Sharks Stumble as Indian River Takes Game 2
Miami, FL - After a dominant Game 1, Miami Dade couldn't carry that momentum into the nightcap, falling 7-1 to Indian River State as the Pioneers used a big middle stretch to take control.
Indian River State struck first in the second inning and never looked back, gradually building pressure before breaking things open in the fourth. A three-run inning highlighted by timely hitting from Jaci Alvey and a two-RBI knock from Ciara Gendron gave IRSC a commanding lead they wouldn't give up.
The Pioneers kept adding on, finishing with 12 hits and taking advantage of defensive miscues by the Sharks, who committed four errors in the game. Those extra opportunities proved costly, turning a close game early into a tough gap to overcome late.
In the circle, Amanda Handa got the start but was tagged early, while Ella Brooks took over and worked through the remaining innings. On the other side, Emma Eekhoff was sharp all game, limiting Miami Dade to just three hits while striking out nine.
Offensively, the Sharks couldn't find their rhythm. Ebba Sofia Eriksson, Nidayra Romano, and Valeria Rivera accounted for Miami Dade's only hits, while the lone run came in the seventh inning when Maria Julia Pedroso scored on a late play but by then, the deficit was too much.
After grinding out a 1-0 win earlier in the day, Miami Dade couldn't generate the same timely offense or clean execution in Game 2, as Indian River State responded to split the matchup.
