Handa Twirls A Gem For The Sharks
Miami, FL - Miami Dade didn't need much offense, just one swing and a whole lot of pitching.
The Sharks took down Indian River State 1-0 in a tight, defensive battle, riding a dominant complete-game performance from Amanda Handa and timely hitting to secure the win in Game 1.
Handa was in full control from the first pitch, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out 10 and allowing just four hits across seven innings. She worked through traffic at times, issuing three walks, but never let Indian River State find a rhythm, shutting the door every single time.
Offensively, Miami Dade struck early and made it stand. In the second inning, Ebba Sofia Eriksson got things started and later came around to score on a clutch RBI double from Cintia Escalante, the only run the Sharks would need.
Eriksson led the way at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and the game's lone run, consistently putting pressure on the defense. The Sharks totaled eight hits on the night, with contributions up and down the lineup.
The Sharks will look to maintain momentum as they get set to play Game 2 at 5:00 PM.
