Sharks Run Rule Central Florida in Game 1
Miami, FL - Miami Dade wasted no time taking control, rolling past the College of Central Florida in an 8-0 run-rule win to open the doubleheader.
From the first inning, the Sharks were in command. Leyani Viruet got things started with an RBI single to put Miami Dade on the board, and the offense kept applying pressure from there. A three-run second inning broke it open early, with the Sharks capitalizing on defensive miscues and executing in key moments to build a quick lead.
Miami Dade didn't let up. Caroline Mito added an RBI knock in the third to extend the advantage, and the Sharks closed it out in the sixth with a three-run frame, highlighted by Cate Haggerty's RBI single and aggressive baserunning that forced more errors.
Offensively, it was a complete effort. The Sharks tallied 11 hits and drew six walks, constantly putting pressure on Central Florida. Sofia Reyes was electric at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases. Mito added two hits and two runs, while Viruet drove in a pair to lead the team in RBI.
In the circle, Amanda Handa was dominant. The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out eight. She worked around a few walks but never let Central Florida find any rhythm, shutting the door from start to finish.
A statement win to open the day, the Sharks set the tone early and left no doubt in Game 1.
