Late Home Run Lifts Seminole State Past Miami Dade, 6-4
Sanford, FL — Miami Dade built an early lead and carried it into the late innings, but Seminole State used a dramatic finish to hand the Sharks a 6-4 loss.
The Sharks came out sharp at the plate, scoring twice in the opening inning behind RBI singles from Ebba Sofia Eriksson and Maria Julia Pedroso. Miami Dade added another run in the second and one more in the fourth, stretching the lead to 4-0 while consistently applying pressure offensively.
Makayla Deleon paced the attack with a perfect 4-for-4 performance and two RBIs, while Caroline Mito reached base four times and scored twice, setting the tone at the top of the lineup. Miami Dade finished with 10 hits and executed well situationally, adding three sacrifice plays and aggressive baserunning.
Seminole State chipped away in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to cut into the deficit. Despite the shift in momentum, Miami Dade held onto the 4-3 lead deep into the game behind Amanda Handa, who worked into the eighth inning in the circle.
The turning point came in the bottom of the eighth. After Seminole State pushed across the tying run earlier in the inning, Sophia Vanderkooy delivered the decisive blow, a three-run home run to center field that flipped the game and secured the 6-4 walk-off win.
Miami Dade was unable to answer after regaining the lead briefly in the top half, as the late swing erased what had been a strong offensive showing.
The Sharks will look to bounce back after a tough loss that slipped away in the final inning.
