Sharks Win Game 2 to Sweep the Falcons
Miami, FL — Miami Dade College completed the doubleheader sweep on Saturday, taking game two from Daytona State College by a 9-4 final to cap a strong conference showing at home.
With the Sharks already holding a game-one victory, Miami Dade (10-5, 2-2) came out aggressive in the nightcap and never allowed momentum to shift.
Alyssa Densmore opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single to center, bringing home Caroline Mito for the early advantage. In the second, Mito extended the lead with an RBI single of her own, giving the Sharks a 2-0 edge.
Daytona State (18-8, 3-3) tied the contest in the third, but Miami Dade answered immediately with a three-run response. Leyani Viruet drove in a run after reaching on an error, and aggressive baserunning from Sofia Reyes helped manufacture two more as the Sharks regained control, 5-2.
The Falcons cut the deficit to one in the fourth, but the Sharks delivered the decisive blow in the fifth inning.
Savannah Barlow ripped a two-RBI single to push the lead to 7-4, and Mito followed with a two-run single to right to stretch the margin to 9-4. From there, Miami Dade shut the door.
The Sharks finished with 14 hits in game two. Mito led the offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a stolen base. Barlow was perfect at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ebba Sofia Eriksson added three hits, while Densmore recorded two hits and an RBI.
In the circle, Ava Salvino (3-2) went the distance, tossing a complete game while allowing four runs on 10 hits. She threw 96 pitches with 64 strikes and limited Daytona State to one walk to secure the sweep.
