Handa Tosses Complete-Game Shutout as Sharks Blank Southern Idaho, 2–0
Fort Myers, FL – Amanda Handa delivered a dominant performance in the circle Friday afternoon, tossing a complete-game shutout to lead Miami Dade College to a 2–0 victory over the College of Southern Idaho in game two of the Paradise Cove Tournament
In a tightly contested matchup, both teams traded scoreless innings early before the Sharks broke through in the fourth. Alyssa Densmore reached and later came around to score on a run-scoring single from Leyani Viruet, giving Miami Dade its first lead of the afternoon. The Sharks added what proved to be the decisive insurance run later in the inning when Makayla Deleon lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Jaylene Mieres to score and extend the advantage to 2–0.
Handa made the lead stand the rest of the way, scattering seven hits across seven innings while striking out six and working around three walks. Southern Idaho threatened in multiple innings, but Miami Dade's defense came through in key moments to keep the visitors off the scoreboard and secure the shutout win.
Jaylene Mieres and Leyani Viruet each recorded multi-hit performances to pace the Sharks offensively, while Deleon and Densmore contributed key runs in the fourth inning that ultimately decided the contest.
