Late Rally Falls Just Short as Sharks Fall to Spoon River, 10–9
Fort Myers, FL - Miami Dade rallied late and outhit Spoon River College 16–8 on Friday afternoon, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Sharks dropped a 10–9 decision at the Paradise Cove Tournament in Fort Myers.
Spoon River struck early, scoring twice in the opening inning before using a five-run second inning to create separation. The visitors added two more runs in the third and another in the fourth to build a 10–2 advantage, capitalizing on defensive miscues as Miami Dade committed seven errors in the contest.
The Sharks responded by steadily working their way back into the game behind a strong offensive performance throughout the lineup. Caroline Mito led the charge with a perfect 4-for-4 afternoon, scoring four times and driving in three runs, while Makayla Deleon added three hits and two runs scored. Ebba Sofia Eriksson delivered a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Daniela Olvera Rodriguez and Coral Latshaw each contributed multi-hit performances as Miami Dade continued to pressure Spoon River's pitching staff.
Miami Dade began its comeback in the fourth inning before pulling closer with runs in the fifth and sixth. The Sharks nearly completed the rally in the seventh, scoring three times and bringing the tying run home as Mito delivered again with a run-scoring single. The comeback attempt ultimately stalled on a game-ending double play, allowing Spoon River to escape with the one-run victory.
Despite the loss, Ava Salvino provided stability in the circle, allowing just five hits over 5.1 innings of relief while keeping the Sharks within striking distance late in the game.
