Sharks Explode for Nine-Run Sixth to Power Past Lurleen B. Wallace, 13–7
Dothan, AL - Miami Dade broke open a tight game with a nine-run sixth inning and rode a dominant offensive performance to a 13–7 victory over Lurleen B. Wallace Community College on Saturday.
The Sharks finished with 19 hits on the afternoon, putting consistent pressure on the defense and capitalizing on opportunities late to secure the win.
Miami Dade struck first in the second inning, matching Lurleen B. Wallace with two runs before adding two more in the third to take a 4–2 lead. The visitors answered with three runs in the fifth to briefly regain momentum, but the Sharks delivered the decisive blow one inning later. Miami Dade sent 14 batters to the plate in the sixth, erupting for nine runs on a flurry of extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning to take full control at 13–5.
Caroline Mito led the offensive charge, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBIs, a double, and a triple while also swiping two bases. Coral Latshaw added a strong performance at the top of the lineup, finishing with two hits and a team-high three RBIs. Cate Haggerty and Ebba Sofia Eriksson each recorded multi-hit games, while Maria Julia Pedroso drove in two runs and added both a double and a triple.
Amanda Handa contributed on both sides of the ball, collecting two hits and two RBIs at the plate while earning the win in the circle. The right-hander worked all seven innings, allowing just three earned runs while striking out five.
Jaylene Mieres and Cintia Escalante each added RBIs, and Makayla Deleon scored twice as Miami Dade's lineup produced up and down the order. The Sharks also stayed aggressive on the bases, recording six stolen bases in the contest.
Lurleen B. Wallace pushed across two runs in the seventh, but the late rally fell short as Miami Dade closed out the six-run victory to improve their record and continue building momentum early in the season.
