In a tense semifinal clash at the FCSAA State Tournament, the Miami Dade men's soccer team fell just short in heartbreaking fashion, dropping a 2–1 decision in double overtime to Eastern Florida State College on Friday night.
Miami Dade struck first midway through the opening half when Mario Bardi found the back of the net in the 32nd minute, giving the Sharks early momentum. But Eastern Florida answered right before halftime with a goal from Jacopo Caprile, leveling the match at 1–1 heading into the break.
Both teams battled through a physical second half, trading possession and chances while defenses held firm. Goalkeeper Samuel Cavo stood tall for the Sharks, registering 11 saves to keep the game alive through regulation and into extra time. Despite Miami Dade's disciplined effort, Eastern Florida's persistence paid off in the second overtime period when Tarik Ferraz Freire capitalized on a loose ball in the box to score the golden goal in the 102nd minute.
Miami Dade finished the night with nine total shots, including six on target, while Eastern Florida generated 22 shots and controlled much of the late pressure. The loss ends a rollercoaster season for the Sharks, who battled through injuries, adversity, and one of the toughest schedules in the nation under second-year head coach Giuseppe DePalo.
