Sharks Lose on Sophomore Night
The Miami Dade Sharks fell in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday afternoon, conceding a late goal in the 87th minute to drop a 1-0 decision to Daytona State College in a tightly contested conference matchup.
Both teams traded chances throughout the match, each finishing with 11 shots apiece, but neither side could break through until the closing moments. The Sharks created consistent pressure in the second half, led by Nicolo Liburdi, Matteo DePalo, and Carl Laurent, who each registered shots on goal. Despite the flurry of opportunities, Daytona's goalkeeper Matthew McCall stood tall, recording five saves to preserve the shutout.
Miami Dade's defensive unit, anchored by goalkeeper Samuel Cavo, held firm for nearly the entire match. Cavo made three key saves and commanded his backline well, frustrating the Falcons' attack until Lance Talley found the game-winner in the 86th minute with an unassisted strike.
The Sharks battled until the final whistle, earning four corner kicks and pushing numbers forward in search of an equalizer, but the Falcons' defense held on.
With the loss, Miami Dade drops to 6-9-2 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play, while Daytona State improves to 10-1-2 and 3-0-0. The Sharks will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue to fight for postseason positioning.
