The Miami Dade College men's soccer squad earned a statement victory on Wednesday afternoon, defeating No. 4 nationally ranked Eastern Florida State College, 2–1, in a physical matchup that had plenty of intensity from start to finish.
The Sharks got on the board early in the 17th minute when Daniele Malanga buried a shot off a perfect setup from Emmanuele Serra to give MDC the early edge. The Titans responded later in the half as Stephen Gilbert found the back of the net off an assist from Henry Crosthwaite, sending the teams into the break tied at 1–1.
Miami Dade stayed composed through a scrappy second half that saw multiple yellow cards issued, including to Jeremy Levivier, Matteo DePalo, and the Sharks head coach Giuseppe DePalo. Despite the physical play, the Sharks continued to press forward, and it paid off late. In the 88th minute, Martin Jaramillo came through with the game-winner, lifting MDC to a 2–1 lead they would not relinquish.
Samuel Cavo held strong in goal with two key saves, while the Sharks' back line, anchored by Malanga and Agustin Bezara, limited the Titans to zero corner kicks and few scoring chances.
The win marks one of the biggest results of the season for the Sharks, as they hand Eastern Florida just its second loss of the year. Miami Dade improves its conference record and makes a strong case as one of the teams to watch heading into the postseason stretch.
