Grand Junction, CO - Miami Dade saw its run through the 2026 NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series take its first hit Wednesday night, as the Sharks fell to top-seeded Johnson County Community College at Sam Suplizio Field.
After entering the matchup unbeaten in Grand Junction following wins over LSU Eunice and Blinn College, Miami Dade faced a Johnson County squad that entered the tournament with the nation's best record and continued to show why it has been one of the most dominant teams in junior college baseball this season.
The Cavaliers jumped on the Sharks early offensively and never allowed Miami Dade to fully settle into rhythm, building momentum inning after inning. Johnson County's lineup consistently applied pressure throughout the night, capitalizing on timely hitting and forcing the Sharks into an uphill battle from the opening frames.
Miami Dade attempted to respond offensively, but Johnson County controlled the pace for most of the contest and limited opportunities for the Sharks to string together rallies.
Despite the setback, Miami Dade remains alive in the double-elimination tournament and will now turn its attention toward the elimination bracket as the Sharks continue their pursuit of a national championship in Grand Junction.
