Sharks Explode for 14 Runs on Sophomore Day
Miami, FL - Miami Dade turned patience into production and never took their foot off the gas, cruising to a 14–1 win over Atlantis University in a game that was over almost as soon as it started.
After a scoreless first inning, the Sharks unleashed a seven-run second that flipped the game completely. Miami Dade took advantage of control issues on the mound, drawing walks and forcing mistakes before delivering the big swings. A two-run double from Willy Mendez sparked the inning, followed by a two-run single from William Polanco that pushed the lead out of reach early.
From there, it was all about adding on.
Miami Dade manufactured runs with discipline and situational execution, scoring in five straight innings. Sacrifice flies from Adrian Areizaga, Samuel Castro, Miguel Colmenares, and Rene Ramirez Jr. kept the pressure on, while Areizaga added a two-run double in the fourth to highlight a three-RBI afternoon. Mendez finished with three RBI and two runs scored, while Polanco crossed the plate twice and drove in two more as the lineup produced up and down.
Even with just eight hits, the Sharks made every opportunity count, drawing 10 walks and consistently moving runners. Six different players drove in runs, and Miami Dade stole bases, executed small ball, and capitalized on every mistake Atlantis made.
On the mound, Kevin Roque set the tone. The right-hander went five strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven. He attacked the zone all game and never allowed Atlantis to build any momentum. Jordan Bermudez closed things out with two scoreless innings to seal the win.
