Sharks Drop Game Two to Hillsborough
Tampa, FL - Miami Dade couldn't keep pace late as Hillsborough Community College pulled away for a 6-2 win in game two of the series.
After three scoreless innings, the Sharks broke through in the fourth when Denixon Suarez lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home William Polanco for a 1-0 lead. Starting pitcher Jeffred Fermin kept Hillsborough in check early, striking out nine over 4.2 innings of work.
Hillsborough responded in the fifth, taking the lead on a solo home run from Nick Palmi followed by a two-run double from Leo Lopez to make it 3-1. The Sharks had opportunities throughout, drawing eight walks in the game, but struggled to capitalize, leaving 11 runners on base.
The game broke open in the seventh as Hillsborough added three more runs, extending the lead to 6-1. Miami Dade answered with a run in the eighth when Rene Ramirez Jr. doubled to left, scoring Suarez, but the comeback attempt fell short.
Ramirez led the Sharks offensively with two hits and an RBI, while Polanco added a triple and scored a run. Despite limiting Hillsborough to five earned runs, Miami Dade was unable to overcome missed opportunities at the plate.
With the loss, the Sharks split the doubleheader as they look to bounce back in the series finale.
