Areizaga Powers Sharks Over Seminole State
Sanford, FL - The Miami Dade Sharks used timely power and lockdown pitching to secure a 4-2 win over Seminole State College of Florida on Wednesday evening.
Miami Dade struck first in the opening inning when Adrian Areizaga launched a solo home run to left, setting the tone early. After Seminole State responded with a two-run double in the third to take a 2-1 lead, the Sharks quickly answered back in the fourth. Miguel Colmenares delivered an RBI double to tie the game, bringing home Willy Mendez.
The game remained tight into the late innings until the Sharks broke through in the eighth. William Polanco delivered the biggest swing of the night, blasting a two-run home run to right field to give Miami Dade a 4-2 advantage they would not relinquish.
At the plate, Miami Dade tallied 11 hits, led by Areizaga's three-hit performance and multi-hit efforts from Colmenares and Polanco. Polanco finished with two RBIs, while Colmenares added an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, the Sharks' bullpen dominated. After Xavier Pelzer battled through the early innings, TJ Socarras stabilized the game with three scoreless frames. Luke Helms (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 strong innings, and Luis Lorenzo shut the door in the ninth to secure the save.
Miami Dade's pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts and limited Seminole State to just four hits, silencing the Raiders' offense down the stretch.
