Sharks Strike Late, Secure Series Win Over Titans
Miami, FL - Miami Dade College stayed patient and delivered when it mattered most, erupting for four runs in the fifth inning to defeat St. Petersburg College, 4-1, in Game 2 of the series. With the win, the Sharks clinch the series after taking Game 1.
For four innings, it was a quiet pitcher's duel. Miami Dade managed just one hit through the first four frames, while right-hander Samuel Alonso kept the Titans in check, working efficiently and limiting traffic.
St. Petersburg broke through first in the top of the fifth on a solo home run from Daniel Hernandez, briefly grabbing a 1-0 lead. But the Sharks responded immediately — and emphatically.
Miami Dade capitalized on patience and timely hitting in the bottom half of the inning. After loading the bases, Rene Ramirez Jr. tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Moments later, Antonio Fawcett came through with a clutch RBI double to give the Sharks their first lead of the day. Samuel Castro followed with the biggest swing of the game, lining a two-run single to center that pushed the advantage to 4-1.
That was all the Sharks needed.
Alonso (5-2) delivered a strong start, allowing just one run over 4.2 innings while striking out six. Luis Lorenzo came out of the bullpen and shut the door, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings to secure the win.
Despite being outhit 6-3, Miami Dade made every opportunity count, drawing four walks and executing in key moments. Castro led the way with two RBIs, while Fawcett added a run and an RBI in the decisive inning.
With the series already in hand, the Sharks will look to complete the sweep and continue building momentum in conference play.
