Sharks Run-Rule Daytona State, 12-1
Miami, FL - Miami Dade erupted for 11 runs over the final three innings and cruised to a 12-1 run-rule victory over Daytona State College on Saturday, completing a dominant doubleheader performance.
With the win, the Sharks improved to 15-12-1 overall and 8-6-1 in conference play, while Daytona State fell to 13-14-1 (7-7-1).
Miami Dade opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Samuel Castro drove in William Polanco with an RBI groundout to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
Daytona State briefly tied the game in the second inning on a solo home run from Jack Waddingham, but it would be the Falcons' only run of the afternoon.
The Sharks responded with a huge third inning to take control of the game. Miguel Colmenares started the rally with an RBI single that brought home Antonio Fawcett. Moments later, Jendy Gonzalez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another run. Two wild pitches followed, allowing both Colmenares and Denixon Suarez to score as Miami Dade stretched the lead to 5-1.
Miami Dade kept the pressure on in the fourth inning, plating four more runs. Willy Mendez drew a bases-loaded walk to score Rene Ramirez Jr., and Colmenares later brought home another run after being hit by a pitch. Suarez added a sacrifice fly, and Leamsi Montanez walked with the bases loaded to cap the four-run frame and extend the lead to 9-1.
The Sharks closed the game in the fifth inning with three more runs. Samuel Castro reached on an error that allowed Fawcett to score, and Willy Mendez followed with a two-run single to center field to seal the run-rule victory.
Miami Dade finished with seven hits and drew eight walks, constantly applying pressure throughout the game. Antonio Fawcett led the offense with a 2-for-2 performance and three runs scored, while Castro scored three runs. Mendez drove in three RBIs, and Colmenares added two RBIs.
On the mound, TJ Socarras (2-2) delivered a strong outing, striking out seven batters across 3.2 innings while allowing just one run. Jose Villegas closed the game with 1.1 scoreless innings to secure the run-rule win.
Miami Dade pitchers combined to strike out eight batters and hold Daytona State to just three hits in the five-inning victory.
