Late Run Not Enough as Sharks Fall 3-1 at SCF
Bradenton, Florida - Miami Dade was limited offensively and could not overcome a fourth-inning surge by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, falling 3–1 on the road.
The Sharks and the Manatees played through three scoreless innings as both pitching staffs kept the opposing lineups quiet early. Miami Dade scattered a few hits but struggled to convert opportunities, leaving eight runners on base in the contest.
The game turned in the bottom of the fourth inning when State College of Florida struck for all three of its runs. Josh Castellani opened the scoring with a two-run home run to right field, bringing home Ben Ryan and giving the hosts the early lead. Later in the inning, Joshua Reiter lined a double to left field that scored Will Rawls to extend the advantage to 3–0.
Miami Dade finished the afternoon with six hits. Antonio Fawcett led the way at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, while Adrian Areizaga, Samuel Castro, Rene Ramirez Jr., and Leamsi Montañez each recorded a hit.
The Sharks finally broke through in the top of the seventh inning. Montañez scored after Jendy Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded walk, cutting the deficit to two runs. However, Miami Dade could not generate additional offense as State College of Florida closed out the victory.
Luke Helms took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits across 3.2 innings of work. Luis Lorenzo followed in relief and kept the Manatees off the board over the final 2.1 innings, striking out two.
