Sharks Roll Past Eastern Florida, 7–1
Miami, FL - Miami Dade took control early and never looked back, defeating Eastern Florida State College 7-1 to improve to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
The Sharks struck immediately in the bottom of the first. With traffic on the bases, Samuel Castro delivered a two-run single to center, scoring Adrian Areizaga and William Polanco to put Miami Dade up 2-0.
In the second, the Sharks applied pressure again. Polanco swiped second before Jendy Gonzalez electrified the crowd by stealing home, extending the lead to 3-0.
Eastern Florida's lone run came in the fourth inning on a solo home run, but Miami Dade responded calmly and continued to build separation.
Leamsi Montanez added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 4-1, and Areizaga lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth to score Gonzalez and push the advantage to 5-1.
The Sharks broke it open in the eighth. Denixon Suarez lined a two-run single to right, plating Areizaga and Gonzalez for the final 7-1 margin.
On the mound, Samuel Alonso was dominant. The right-hander tossed six strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out six to earn his third win of the season. Jesus Moreno and Jeffred Fermin combined for three scoreless innings of relief, striking out five and shutting the door.
Offensively, Gonzalez scored three runs and swiped a base, while Polanco collected two hits and stole one. Castro and Suarez each drove in two runs as Miami Dade finished with eight hits and six RBIs.
The Sharks continue conference play riding strong momentum as they look to build on another complete performance on both sides of the ball.
